School trips to the castle
From February to December, Sully-sur-Loire Castle welcomes school groups and children's’ groups of all ages by offering a range of activities adapted to different levels. Come and (re)discover the castle’s multiple features and its famous owner.
Nursery (Ages 3-5)
“The castle under the magnifying glass” (duration: 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes)
Their observation talents will really be put to the test during this visit. After a presentation of the room, the children will have to find the ornament in the room using a photograph. In the course of their hunt, they will collect fragments of images which will make up a hilarious picture.
“Once upon a time in the castle” guided visit (duration: 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes)
The lord or dame of Sully Castle will warmly welcome the children into their home. Discover the castle and its daily lifestyle with the story of Eloi the messenger.
Food workshop (duration: 1 hour)
One of the castle’s chefs will present the culinary customs of the Middle Ages to the children.
The staple foods of the olden days as well as the spices and their scents are explained to the children in the first part of the workshop. In the second part, each child will take part in the creation of a hippocras, a spicy drink. The children will then be able to taste it.
Music and dance workshop (duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes)
The guide will explain the origins of music and its various functions to the children. Afterwards, there will be a listening game during which the children can understand and discover the different types of music and their role across the centuries. The children, equipped with musical instruments and trained in the dance steps, will all play and dance together at the end of the workshop.
Primary 1, Primary 2 and Primary 3
Self-guided visit with booklet (duration: 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes)
Each child will be able to discover the whole castle by answering the questions in the booklet which is adapted to their educational ability.
“Daily life in a medieval castle” guided visit (duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes)
What did they eat in the Middle Ages? What is knighthood? How did they dress?
The children will head off on a journey to discover the Middle Ages with the dame or lord of the castle.

“Construction and defence of a medieval fortified castle” guided visit (duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes)
How did they manage to construct such a building without today’s techniques and resources? The work of the stonemasons and joiners as well as the defensive system will no longer be a secret to the children.
Coat of arms workshop (duration: 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes)
Chimney tops, shields and clothes are decorated with strange shapes and designs. These are coat of arms. They are not just created for decoration. Each colour, symbol and design carry a message. During the workshop, the children will find out about them to better understand them. They will then make their own coat of arms.
Theatre workshop (duration: 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes)
Voltaire, writer and comedian, will explain the importance of his role in the lord’s court to the children. All the children have a role to play. Voltaire will also tell us about the famous characters of the castle, such as warrior Joan of Arc and the young King Louis XIV.
2nd Year, 3rd Year and 4th Year of Secondary School

“Construction and defence of a medieval fortified castle” guided visit (duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes)

“Mythology in art” guided visit (duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes)
Mythology is a subject which has appeared in history and art throughout the centuries. You will see gods, goddesses and other heroes in all forms of art. This visit will be your chance to familiarise yourself with painting, especially tapestry, through the story of Psyche.

► PLEASE NOTE:
- Guided tour (in addition to the entrance fee): €75 per class
- Guided tours (visits and workshops) must be reserved.
- Visits and workshops are possible every day except Mondays.
- 1 guide for a class of 30 persons maximum. (Children and chaperone). Beyond that, a second guide will be necessary (invoiced at 75€)
